Trivia Nights Proves to Not be Trivial
Saturday, January 22, 2011
A tremendous amount of useless knowledge poured out from over 300 participants in the 2011 Trivia Night hosted in support of the Huntingburg Foundation on Saturday evening.
The Huntingburg Event & Community Center was the sight of tense competition for teams answering as much trivia correctly as possible in a short few minutes. Teams varied in ages and came from all parts of the Dubois County and surrounding counties.
The entertaining rounds of trivia varied from literature to movies to team mascots, but the theme of the night was raising dollars for the Community Foundation to support its role as endowment builder and making grants to local charities. With several cheers and jeers the scores would be tallied and reported to the crowd after every round, but it was clear most were participating not just to compete--they enjoyed the spirit and entertainment that radiated from this unique community event.
"The event proves to be an excellent fundraiser, but also proves to be an awareness builder about the important work of our Community Foundation," said Brad Ward, Executive Director of the Huntingburg Foundation.
Kurt Fuhs, organizer and chairperson of Trivia Night "appreciates the generosity of participants who embrace this is a fundraiser as much as it is a good community event." It is estimated over $8,500 was raised from various activities and entry donations.
"It is terrific to see teams in their 20s and 30s joking and laughing with their neighboring teams who are in their 50s and 60s," Fuhs said. "To see a cross-section of ages coming together for an event like this is a reflection of our community's goodwill and is promising for the future of philanthropy," Ward added.
