Fund Mirrors Other Community Relief Efforts
The Huntingburg Foundation has established a Disaster Relief Fund. With all of the damages that have been made due to disasters in our country, the Foundation feels the need to create a fund in order support local damages caused by a disaster. The Community Foundation of the Ozarks (near Joplin, Missouri) created a Joplin Recovery Fund...
for the tornadoes that recently struck their area. The goal of the fund will be to address the needs of non-profit organizations serving the Joplin area as they work on recovery efforts, which will require years of support. The Board of Directors is developing a community leadership committee that will establish criteria and make local funding decisions.
The Huntingburg Foundation envisions a fund similar to the Joplin Recovery Fund that would serve the Southwest Dubois County area. However, instead of waiting for a disaster to hit, the Foundation wants to take a pro-active step towards developing a fund now. That way, when a disaster does strike, funds will be immediately available to support the community.
