Philanthropist Hugo Steinkamp Remembered:

Memorials create lasting gift with Shared Abundance Fund

To remember the many gifts made during his lifetime, an endowment to benefit Shared Abundance was created with gifts made in memory of Hugo Steinkamp.  A grant in his name will be made every year, forever.

In speaking with Hugo’s son, Scott, he shared, “Though Hugo knew many people, most of his time and energy was spent raising his kids and running his business.”  While Hugo supported a  variety of causes, including the establishment of a family scholarship fund, he gave privately and often as his  gifts were out of kindness, not for attention.

Hugo appreciated the direct impact Shared Abundance offered to people in need, but his greatest philanthropy came in the form of values.   “Hugo showed his customers, employees, and friends the importance of family,” stated his son, Scott.

While most retail businesses chose to stay open on Sunday, Hugo kept to the values taught by his father. Scott recalled, “In his eyes, Sundays are for church and family. Hugo’s father always said, “If you can’t make a living in six days, the seventh day won’t help.””

Scott felt Hugo would want us to remember him by devoting more time to family and supporting the causes that matters most to us.  His legacy of giving continues through the Hugo Steinkamp Shared Abundance Fund, a tribute to the values that shapes a family, business and community forever.
