Volunteers Complete 0.5 Mile Loop Trail
Jeffers Nature Preserve opens to public

Several volunteers (see photo) spent the afternoon putting the final touches on the loop trail at the Jeffers Nature Preserve. The public can now safely enjoy the splendor of a beautiful walk through nature only minutes from Huntingburg.
Parking is available at the water treatment plant on the north-west corner of the Huntingburg City Lake- from there, connect to nature preserve and visit the new loop trail at the front of the preserve.
In 2002, Albert and Mary Lea Jeffers gifted 30.42 acres of Jeffers old farmstead to the Huntingburg Foundation to be set aside as a nature preserve or nature education center.Located south of State Road 64
on the western shore of the Huntingburg City Lake, the Jeffers Nature Preserve opened to the public in 2007. The preserve offered two hiking trails through the property, as well as an entry way featuring a historical monument honoring Albert Jeffers' parents, Daniel and Martha Jeffers.
A peaceful sanctuary, the nature preserve has become home to a vast array of vegetation and wildlife.
Volunteer Angie McDonald leads the charge to improve and maintain the nature preserve. "Imagine the possibilities," said McDonald. "A nature preserve with hiking trails, an educational nature center, or an environmental studies center - there is nothing like this in Dubois County."
McDonald hopes to gather volunteers, as well as partner with local Boy Scout troops, to improve the state of the nature preserve and make it usable by the public once again.
