COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT FOR SOUTHWEST DUBOIS COUNTY
On July 1, a group of community arts leaders convened to learn about a $20,000 grant initiative for arts enrichment in Southwest Dubois County. This funding opportunity, entitled "ArtWorks," will define what it takes to inspire local residents to appreciate and participate in the arts. The next "ArtWorks" meeting will be held on August 4 at 4:00 in the Huntingburg Old Town Hall ballroom. The group will discuss the next steps in organizing the arts enrichment program.
The "ArtWorks" grant initiative, underwritten by the Community Arts & Music Fund, will be disbursed over a two-year period. The goals of the program include promoting community enrichment in Southwest Dubois County through the arts with a $20,000 grant initiative in 2011-2012, dispersing grants to worthy applicants at set intervals throughout the two-year period, and establishing a permanent fund (endowment) that will support the arts thereafter. At the July 1 meeting, Paige Stradtner, coordinator of the Dubois County Volunteer Center project at Tri-Cap, led a discussion on the steps necessary to accomplish these goals. The attendees brainstormed on possible events that could be made possible through the program. They also learned about the levels of involvement and the steps to becoming part of the "ArtWork" Team.
"If community leaders, volunteers, and donors commit to making the arts an integral part of our community, the Foundation is eager to fund its initial steps in doing so," said Larry Fuesler, Board President. "The impact of participating in and appreciating the arts is immeasurable, which is why the Huntingburg Foundation feels that 'ArtWorks' will be a valuable program in community enrichment."
