The Huntingburg Foundation is pleased to announce $36,400 in scholarship aid to graduating area students. Recipients for the 2010-2011 academic year administered by the Community Foundation include students of Southridge, Jasper, Heritage Hills, and Northeast Dubois High Schools.

COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Sarah Gobert Scholarship Endowment established by the Dubois County Leukemia Association in memory of Sarah Gobert, a young child whose thirteen months battle with leukemia ended in October of 1998, benefits students graduating from any of the four school districts of Dubois County who wish to pursue post-secondary education in the medical or healthcare professions. Shawna Eckerle of Jasper High School and Sara Matthews of Southridge High School are recipients of the one-time $1,000 scholarship awards. Shawna is the daughter of Roxane and Scott Eckerle, and will be attending University of Evansville next fall. Sara is the daughter of Teresa and Jeff Matthews, and is planning to attend the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Denise Davis-Thompson Scholarship Endowment established by the generosity of Mr. Thompson in honor of his wife, Denise Davis-Thompson, in recognition of her dedicated service to the hearing impaired of Dubois, Perry and Spencer counties offers a one-time award of $750 to a graduate of any named county in pursuit of post-secondary studies to assist children and adults with hearing impairments. This year’s recipient is Christian Schnarr of Jasper High School. Christian is the son of Carlene Schroeder and Glenn Schnarr, and will be attending the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Souders Family Scholarship Endowment established by Fred and Marsha Souders on behalf of their family to support a Dubois County graduate who wishes to pursue post-secondary education in any career related to the field of aviation including aeronautics engineering, mechanics, controller, pilot, etc. Jarred Keller of Northeast Dubois High School is the recipient of the one-time $500 scholarship award. Jarred is the son of Michelle and Norman Keller, and plans to attend Purdue University of Technology.


Parke-Bell Scholarship Endowment established in support of a child or grandchild of a current employee of Parke-Bell Ltd., Inc. or a current employee of Parke-Bell Ltd., Inc. who intends to pursue further education after graduation from high school. Alyse Carr currently enrolled at Oakland City University, Taylor Gogel of Heritage Hills High School, and Kyle Smith of Southridge High School are each a recipient of a one-time $600 scholarship award. Alyse is the daughter of Jill Ballard and will continue her education at Oakland City University. Taylor, the son of Bonnie and Mark Gogel, plans to attend University of Evansville. Kyle is the son of Kathryn and John Smith, and he will attend Indiana State University.
ATHLETIC-RELATED AWARDS
Trent-Singer Scholarship Endowment established by the families in memory of Gordon Singer, Jr. and Todd Trent to benefit students graduating from Southridge High School and having participated in high school athletics. Jesse Underwood is the recipient of the one-time $500 scholarship award. Jesse is the son of Dana and David Underwood, and will be attending University of Southern Indiana.

Jason Feldmeyer Memorial Scholarship Endowment established for the 2000 graduate of Southridge High School and golf team standout, Jason Feldmeyer, to offer a scholarship award for current Southridge High School senior golf members pursuing a post-secondary education. Recipients are Sarah Boeglin and Jacob Kilian for a $1,500 minimum, one-time scholarship award. Sarah is the daughter of Ann and Dennis Boeglin and plans to attend Indiana University. Jacob, the son of Randy and Gwen Kilian, will be attending Vincennes University in Jasper.
Zach King Memorial Scholarship Fund established in memory of a Southridge High School student who participated in athletic programs and at age sixteen lost his life due to an automobile accident is made available annually to a Southridge High School graduate who participated in high school athletics. Dylan Schaefer, son of Lisa and Jeffery Schaefer, is the recipient of a one-time $250 scholarship award. Dylan will attend the University of Southern Indiana in his pursuit of a post-secondary degree.



Spirit of Southridge Scholarship Endowment was established by sportswriter J.A. (Al) Dotterweich to honor outstanding senior athletes at Southridge High School and support their future college endeavors. Recipients of the one-time $175 scholarship awards were Sara Matthews, Kyle Holzbog, Alyssa Peter, and Alex Schwinghammer. Kyle, the son of Doris and Alan Holzbog, will be attending Franklin College. Alyssa is the daughter of Susan and Richard Peter and will attend University of Southern Indiana. Alex, son of Dana and Rex Schwinghammer, will be attending the University of Evansville.
FIELD-OF-INTEREST AWARDS

Marian Klausmeier Roettger Scholarship Endowment was established by Mr. Roettger in memory of his wife to support a graduating senior of the Southwest School Corporation in pursuit of a post-secondary degree in business or accounting. Recipients of the four-year scholarship awards that provide $1,000 per year are Lance Messmer and Morgan Kippenbrock. Lance is the son of Karen and Doug Messmer and will attend University of Southern Indiana, and Morgan is the daughter of Beth and Roger Kippenbrock and will be attending University of Evansville.

St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Scholarship Endowment established in 2008 to commemorate the years of healthcare support the volunteers of the Auxiliary organization of St. Joseph’s Hospital provided to our community. The endowment benefits students graduating from Southridge High School and will provide a one-time award of $1,000 to Angie Fleck in pursuit of post-secondary studies in the healthcare field. Angie is the daughter of Joyce and Mark Fleck, and will continue her education at Hanover College.

Arnold Schwartz Scholarship Endowment established by Elizabeth Schwartz in memory of her husband to benefit a Southridge High School graduate pursuing post-secondary education in the fields of science, engineering or math. Luke Dippel is the recipient of the one-time $600 scholarship award. Luke is the son of Marilyn and Thomas Bippel and will attend the University of Louisville in the fall.


Owen Roettger Scholarship Endowment was established by the late Mr. Roettger to support a graduating senior of the Southwest School Corporation in pursuit of a post-secondary degree in music. Brooke Lubbehusen and Danielle Wehr are the recipients of the four-year scholarship award that provides $1,000 per year. Brooke is the daughter of Tamara and Kevin Lubbehusen and will attend Indiana State University. Danielle, daughter of Jacqueline and Timothy Wehr, plans to attend Indiana University.

Marcia Scanlon Scholarship Endowment established in memory of a dedicated elementary school teacher in the Southwest School Corporation who lost her battle with cancer at a young age is awarded annually to a graduate of Southridge High School interested in pursuing a college degree in education. A one-time award of $250 has been awarded to Natalie Rodenhouse in pursuit of post-secondary studies in education. Natalie, the daughter of Sandra and Robert Rodenhouse, will attend Indiana State University in the fall.

Larry Dugle Scholarship Endowment was established in memory of the former Southwest School Corporation Superintendent. A one-time scholarship award of $1,000 is awarded to Katelyn Whitsitt in pursuit of a post-secondary degree. Katelyn is the daughter of Jane and Dennis Whitsitt, and will be attending the University of Evansville.


Jeanette Rauscher Scholarship Endowment was established by Ms. Rauscher to support a graduating senior of Southridge High School in pursuit of a post-secondary degree. Brooke Lange and Danielle Blessinger are each recipients of a one-time $875 scholarship award. Brooke is the daughter of Dianne and Gary Lange, and will be attending Indiana University. Danielle is the daughter of April and Kerry Blessinger, and plans to attend the University of Louisville.

Dick & Ruby Smith Scholarship Endowment was established in memory of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in dedication of their commitment to Huntingburg and the pursuit of education. General scholarships are provided to Southridge High School graduates in pursuit of a post-secondary degree. The recipient of the one-time $600 scholarship award is Clair Hoppenjans. Clair, daughter of Barbara and LeeRay Hoppenjans, will continue her education at Indiana University Southeast in the fall.

Dale Helmerich Boy Scout Troop 181 Scholarship Endowment was established in memory of former Mayor Dale Helmerich to commemorate his support of the local Boy Scout Troup 181. It is intended to benefit the future education of a Boy Scout Troop 181 member who has achieved their Life Scout rank. Joshua Tobin is the recipient of the one-time $500 scholarship award. Joshua is the son of Candace and Daniel Tobin, and plans to attend Indiana University in the fall.

Orlan "Mockey" Lett Scholarship Endowment was established in memory of Mr. Lett to commemorate his dedication to higher education. It is intended to benefit persons living in the Southwest School Corporation who are adults returning to higher education or college students who have completed their first year of education. The recipient of the one-time $600 scholarship award is Nicole Loehr. Nicole is the daughter of Jan and Dan Loehr and will continue her education at University of Evansville.
FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Uebelhor Family Scholarship Endowment established by the family in memory of the late Walter and Mary Louise Uebelhor and Mary Ann Uebelhor in support of a Southridge High School graduate in pursuit of a post-secondary education degree in elementary education. Makenzie Duncan is the recipient of the one-time $1,400 scholarship award. Makenzie is the daughter of Janet and Robert Duncan and plans to attend Indiana University.
Steinkamp Family Scholarship Endowment was established by the Steinkamp family in memory of Alice M. Steinkamp Ring to support a Southridge High School graduate in pursuit of a post-secondary degree at the University of Evansville. Alex Schwinghamer is the recipient of a one-time $1,200 scholarship award.
